Advertise to sell guild on chat
Is it OK for me to advertise to SELL my guild on the Chat?
Some guys called me a scammer and some other guy said he was going to report it to "some people" of Arena Net. He said he knew "some people" ... And I will get banned soon. Is this possible? Will my GW account get banned if I advertise to sell my guild? |

In theroy this could be accomplished by inviting the potential buyer into the Guild. Then upon the transaction (likely worthless money at whatever sum) the Leader could simply leave the Guild. Assuming there are only the two people (seller and buyer) in the Guild the Guild would automatically default the remaining person to be Leader.
Do correct me if I'm wrong... never tried this. Note: this would require a great deal of trust between buyer and seller. Similar to those ... oh how to say.. pathetic 100K+ trade deals. A level of trust I only grant to people I know in real life, or possibly ones I've gamed with for a long time. Last edited by Teklord; Jul 29, 2005 at 08:55 PM // 20:55.. Reason: Added Note |

Stupid thread in my opinion.. guilds should never be bought or sold i've seen this so many times, why start the guild and spend time and money on it if you intend to leave, guilds aren't items to be sold.

Actually, Timoz, I saw this in Lion's Arch today. A guy was offering his guild, website (professionally created he said), tags, cape, guild hall yadda yadda yadda for a mere 200,000 gold. He wasn't selling it for real cash just in game gold (which I find REALLY odd).
Think of it: Get 4-5 buddies together, buy a site (or even get a free one), build a good looking web page/forum, get cape and hall, etc. and then sell it to someone. Rinse and repeat and make a LOT of cash IG. I can see some people thinking this might be a good deal....the lazy ones who don't get out there and earn their cape and hall and are too cheap to spend $60 to get a site name, host and forums. I never would have believed it if I hadn't seen it for myself just this morning. |

I guess my question would be how do you know the guild your buying (if your to lazy to save and make your own) has not had it's reputation ran into the ground. and then there is the cape issue if you dont like it you have to pay 2 plat to remake. then your stuck with what ever land the last person bought. to many variables to list why I think this is a bad deal. My opion and we all know what people say about opion's

I find it humourous that people try to sell guilds ... i think it is more because they lost soo many GvG battles that they think they will never recover from it. Maybe they won't, but with a piss poor attitude like that you'll never be a champion. EDIT ************ and to those that don't know ... guild transactions are as follows ... recruit the buyer to your guild .... make him an officer ... exchange cash .... then promote him to guild leader ... old guild leader quits ... very very shady business. |

I'm not arguing FOR this business, just pondering HOW they do it. And, you're absolutely right, Stumpy: They would indeed get a free one. The next logical step and one someone will undoubtedly take, is to buy a domain name/site and sell the guild via EBay or some other such thing for RL dollars. It's only a matter of time.
Personally, it's rather amusing as it is right now, namely selling for IG gold. I can live with that but it's rather silly. As you said, who knows WHAT you're getting for your 200k? |

I see these all the time. Its OK, I guess. Ive seen a guild ranked in the 4000s (which isn't all that great, lol) selling for only 11k, in game cash. And they had capes and a hall. So thats a VERY sweet deal if you wish to get a guild. (And are willing to take the risk)
But bleh, I'd rather just spend the money that I paid to buy my own guild name, cape, and hall. More options that way. And it only cost me some 60k anyway. |

Yeh, wheres the satisfaction in inheriting a guild with members, site etc personally i would get none but that is just me. Another thing, what garuntee do you have the members wouldnt leave (if the guild your buying has any). Then you could be left with a hall, a site, no members, crap rank.

sorry, but I would hope Anet take a dim view of this and ban anyone who does this, in my opinion its wrong The whole point of the game is to build up your own established guild from the ground up. If I ever considered (for some stupid reason to hand over my hard fought gold) to buy a guild, i'd want to know why it was being sold, there has to be a reason why they're selling it in the first place..... |

Pointless... why would you want to buy a guild anyways, when you can make your own and it would probably not have terrible rank, and youd have your own reputation to carve out, not build on someone elses!

I doubt you would be banned but why NOT make your own? All you really need is about 75k. If you get 10 together, that's only 7.5 gold...2k for the cape, and up to 73k to -buy- a sigil. You wouldn't even have to earn it.........unless of course you wanted to, though from the tone of your post, I think that you don't.
As for ANet cracking down on this type of 'business', I highly doubt they can or will. In a sense, buying a ready-made guild isn't all that different from buying a sigil. |
